protective jar of herbs

A humble herb jar to protect our house. Garlic, bay leaves, basil, garlic and salt placed in a corner window. Stand at this window, befriend the lavender and watch over our cottage.

Our living room fireplace is a portal to the sky. Just as a chimney allows smoke to leave a house it can also enable uninvited energies and entities to enter. Many magickal writings deal with protecting this door to your home. This afternoon I began a ritual to protect and purify our hearth.

First, I swept the winter ashes from the fireplace. Then I cut a few branches from the Christmas pine that watched over our living room through December, repeating the words I whispered to the tree when it was felled a few weeks back. I plucked needles from these branches and scattered them over the grill. The pine leaves will protect this magical entrance until I arrange a more permanent measure.

Beginnings

January 1, 2009

Odd things are afoot in our house. Strange noises wake us during the night, objects disappear for a time before reappearing in unexpected locations, the front lawn grass grows in unusual patterns and the ceiling lights have been known to turn on and off by themselves.

These happenings are intriguing rather than disturbing. We do not understand what is going on but it would seem that there are certain unconventional steps we might take to live with the situation. This blog is a place for me to document these oddities and describe how we adapt our home and lifestyle to become aligned with these energies.
